Who We Are

Tiles & Tea began with two friends, a table of Mahjong tiles, and warm spiked tea on a cool fall trip to Martha’s Vineyard.

That first game between Shunda Murray Leecost and Natalie Madeira Cofield sparked something neither expected. What started as a new hobby quickly became a shared love of the game—and an idea for creating more opportunities for women to gather, play, connect, and make a little more room for leisure.

Founded in November 2025, Tiles & Tea takes its name from that very first gathering: the tiles on the table and the tea in our cups.

Today, Tiles & Tea is a social Mahjong club created with women of color at its heart. We celebrate American Mahjong while honoring the game’s rich cultural origins and embracing its modern resurgence as a social and lifestyle experience.

Through lessons, social play, signature events, private gatherings, and special experiences, we’re creating a community where women can discover a new hobby, meet new people, deepen friendships, and simply enjoy themselves.

Because for us, Mahjong has always been about more than the game. It’s about what happens around the table.
